LIVING IN GRATITUDE

Lessons From My Entrepreneurial Family

Growing up in an entrepreneurial family on both sides was a unique experience, filled with lessons that continue to shape my life. I was fortunate to have a grandmother and a grandfather who both modeled different approaches to success, but both shared one common thread—gratitude. From them, I learned that gratitude isn’t just a fleeting emotion; it’s a way of life that invites abundance, joy, and resilience.

My Grandma’s Lesson: Finding Joy in Every Situation

My grandmother taught me that joy can be found in every situation, even when it doesn’t seem obvious. She was the type of person who could walk into a room and immediately lift the energy, not by ignoring the challenges around her, but by choosing to see the beauty and potential in every moment. She believed that living in a perpetual state of joy created a ripple effect—it made her more confident, resilient, and ultimately, more successful.

From her, I learned that when you believe in yourself, that belief shines through in everything you do. She showed me that success isn’t just about external accomplishments; it’s about the internal state you cultivate. When you live in joy, you invite more opportunities, better relationships, and a mindset that naturally aligns with success.

My Papa’s Lesson: Work Hard, Stay Sharp, and Be True to Yourself

On the other side of my family, my grandfather (Papa) was an embodiment of hard work and integrity. He believed that keeping your mind sharp through consistent effort was essential—not just for professional success, but for living a fulfilling life. For him, success was a byproduct of staying true to who you are and never compromising on what matters to you.

Papa’s approach was different from my grandmother’s, but equally valuable. While she focused on joy and self-belief, he emphasized the importance of discipline and aligning your actions with your core values. He taught me that working hard in ways that honor who you are—rather than just grinding for the sake of it—leads to meaningful success. His life was a testament to the fact that when you are true to yourself, success follows naturally.

Gratitude Is The Bridge Between Joy and Hard Work

The lessons from both of them come together in one powerful truth: living in gratitude creates abundance. When we choose gratitude, we aren’t ignoring the difficult emotions or challenges around us. Instead, we’re making a conscious choice to focus on what’s good, even when it’s hard to see at first.

Gratitude doesn’t mean bypassing or suppressing negative feelings. In fact, part of living in gratitude is acknowledging those feelings, addressing them, and then making a deliberate choice to reframe our mindset. It’s about understanding that even in the most complex and challenging situations, there is something to be thankful for. Sometimes, we don’t see it right away, but the act of looking for it creates a shift in our perspective that invites more abundance into our lives.

Choosing Gratitude in Complexity

I grew up in an environment that was complex and sometimes challenging, but it was there that I learned the power of reframing negative emotions. From an early age, I saw firsthand that succumbing to negativity wasn’t the answer. Instead, feeling those emotions, addressing them, and then making a conscious decision to be grateful—even when I didn’t understand why at the time—became my practice.

That choice to live in gratitude has shaped everything I do. It has allowed me to approach life with a mindset of abundance, not because everything is perfect, but because I know that my perception and focus can change how I experience the world. When we choose to live in gratitude, we’re not just reacting to life’s circumstances; we’re actively creating a mindset that opens us up to more opportunities, deeper connections, and lasting success.

Gratitude and Abundance: A Way of Life

In my experience, gratitude and abundance are two sides of the same coin. When we focus on what we have, rather than what we lack, we begin to see opportunities we might have missed before. Gratitude allows us to shift our focus away from the distractions, the negativity, and the obstacles, and instead, tune into what’s truly important.

Living in gratitude is a choice—a powerful, raw decision that brings with it a deep sense of peace and resilience. It doesn’t mean you won’t face challenges, but it does mean that you’ll approach those challenges with a mindset that seeks growth, opportunity, and abundance in every situation.
